Burial Long-Postponed

by Maureen Glaude

six years later
she threw your picture
in the garbage

not to save herself
from questions
but because she didn’t
need it any more

six years later
if the old dream happened
and she met you in the street
she’d cross
to the other side

six years since
even knowing she'd had cancer
you never cared
to ask

six years later...

Like the Recycle Bin on our computers, sometimes it's necessary to empty our own hard drives of certain artifacts and related memories in order for the system to run better.

i can almost hear your hands clapping and the lid slamming shut. good sense of finality in this one.

give out that dustpan and utilize that trash can of history... this is a great piece, maureen... very cleansing and liberating without the slightest hint of fluffiness... blessings...

This is assertive. Turning somebody into simply a nobody, without any trace.
