Pass Venus a Chocolate truffle

by Maureen Glaude

pass Venus a chocolate truffle
from Earth, won’t you
as she hangs alone
beneath the moon?
knowing it’s Valentine’s Day soon
she spruces up her shine and luster
shows herself as a sky-stopper

vanity not her calling card
she's unaware she upstages stars
has not the language to speak to Mars
but marks the date and waits in line
suspended in the night's grand salon
directly beneath the far-off moon
as lovers on land begin to cuddle
she waits solo
why not pass her this Valentine's Day
a chocolate truffle
from Earth, to taste?

I have a hilarious image of myself in the middle of the night chucking chocolates at the stars
