Things I need for Spring by Mary Ellen Smith
One must have a bright retreat
A pillow fit for resting feet.
Treats for birdies nesting near,
Windows open, curtains sheer.
One should have a bit of dirt
A scarecrow in a faded shirt.
Morning glories and Sweet peas,
A trowel for planting if you please.
One might have some garden teas
With ladybugs and fuzzy bees.
Invite the neighbors over too
Youll be happy if you do.
Tis good to have a vintage vase
Atop a table of old lace,
Fill it daily full of bloom
Make a lovely springtime room.
One should make time for a snooze
Then take a walk in running shoes.
Write a poem about the spring
A flowery, sentimental thing.
I shall need a big brimmed hat
Garden gloves and welcome mat.
Have to have some planting seeds
And someone else to weed the weeds.
Hmmmmm....things I need for Fall.

Posted by Adrian Calhoun on 01/14/04 at 06:26 PM Nice poem about spring. Makes one warm and fuzzy all over in mid-winter. Imagery is crystal in the mind, and the rhyme scheme works very well. Well done, I really enjoyed this piece. |

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/30/07 at 01:13 AM Wonderful POTD! Just a fine, fine poem that fills out a delightful scene in your garden, and I loved the ending of "someone else to weed the weeds." I can tell you have been there! |
