they will survive

by Michele Schottelkorb

(they will survive)

a lesson someone tried to teach
was one of precious gold
that the world you cannot fix
lest, you, yourself grow old

mindless energy wasted on
those who will not choose
to live life in a noble way
and in the end, YOU lose

so on this day of bright white light
an epiphany struck my head
one more moment wasted on them
too soon may render ME dead

"they will survive" without my help
you know, they always do
"they will survive" and leech another
and I will survive too

Author's Note: for some oddball reason, i tend to have quite a few parasitical persons in my personal life right now... i take a stand today to not help them anymore... let them suck another dry... i feel that this poem is a bit rough and the rhyme scheme slightly off... but i had to get this out (write it out)... i'm taking my life back... second by second...

I love the stand/statement you've made and the presentation of it... just a little sanding and it will be smooth as fine liquer

Absolutely stunningly brilliant...and so true Michele. Have added to this to my favorites list.

it is difficult to reel back your life exclusive of those you have affected or have been affected by and not discover mysteries contained therein that net we had not expected. A surprise at every turning. Provoking stuff Michele.

Wow. And amen.... though I know the learning of this was difficult. Very well said.

It was good for my soul to read this poem at this particular time. Dan told me about it. Thank you for posting this wisdom.

For a "taking a stand" poem about distancing yourself from some unfavorable folks you've managed quite a rythymic piece with a good bit of wisdom. Good therapy in the writng too, I would think.

Full of wisdom and truth. The users and parasites always find someone else. They do survive. As you say, it is you that they feed off of and leave for dead. Great verse.

Yes, in agreement with the other comments. For me, it's people who think they know what's best for my life better than I do. Maybe they're leeches in a way too. I enjoyed reading your statement of freedom from these people.
