An Ant measured an Ant, five feet six inches.

by Ashok Sharda

An Ant

Measured an Ant

Five feet six inches.

Looking through my

Magnifying glass

I watched an Ant

Rolling out a tape

As big as a tape is to a man

Admeasuring the other Ant

Five feet six inches.

Exclaimed the Ant who measured

Five feet six inches -

‘Oh! I am as big an Ant

As a man is to a man’

‘Yes’- chuckled the other Ant and said -

‘As big an Ant

As an Ant is to an Ant’

An Ant measured an Ant

Five feet six inches.

Author's Note: Only that it wasnt looking. Rather SEEING. A simple reality that realities are relative.

perception is reality. this is a great way of showing just how relative reality is.

Ah...how things change when we use different lenses, eh? Loved this one, Ashok. Amen!

Quite observant Ashok. Interesting reflection and refraction of those titans of the insect world.

Perspective poetry, Ashok. And you, as big to the ant. With or without the glass. Peace...

A quirky little twist to the subject of relativity ... nice one Ashok!

Ah, I love the perspective. Wonderful stuff. Relativity is fun, no?

your reality is fast becoming a mantra to me... bravo, my friend... blessings...

Ah, to have a poet stop, observe, use his wordmeasure on such an astounding creature is not only great fun, but in your inimitable manner, profound.

My relatives are reality. Good poem Ashok...Charlie

The senses cannot be trusted...this is one reason why realities are relative - because sense is relative. If I am to learn or understand the 'truth' purely by sight then I will conclude that the sun is the size of my thumb and the world is flat...what if I were to look through the eye of a telescope? Or the eye of a distant satellite? Or the eye of God? Is there ANY end to relativity or are the planes of perspective infinite? Will I ever truly SEE or will it be SEEING on one plane and LOOKING on a different plane? Am I missing the intended meaning of this poem? No. It's all relative hahahahaha - I Love this Ashok :-)

Seems you are stressing that looking and "seeing" are not necessarily the same thing! Chanllenging thought!

Two hairs in my cup of milk is too much. Two hairs on my head is too less. Relativity. Congrats on POTD!

eleven eleven make a wish, so happy today it's ashok's dish!... blessings on POTD, my dear friend...

It's said that, one day, ants may rule the world - but will they measure up to the task? Whatever, I have few relatives, but a comparatively large number of them are Ants, though they would not beseen that way...at least whilst looking through the other end of Rula's telescope :)
As good a POTD as can be subjectively measured - seriously entertaining stuff Ashok
I measured myself recently and, despite not being a Man 'man', was surprised to learn that I am five and a half ants tall, when viewed through Ashok's perspectoscope...

Ashok, Congratulations on POTD! I can't believe I didn't comment on this, as I thought for sure that I did. I'm not one who usually observes ants, but maybe I should, just the way I do bees.
