The Cat's Away

by Glenn Currier

The metal footprints of this craving
teem with pardons
wriggle with reasons
that gratify and satisfy
and leap the soul to conceal
the seismic blossom
of this momentary comfort.

With what ease this craving
creeps its tentacles
around my mindless mind
to exchange itself
for sanity and love
because the cat’s away.

Author's Note: I know the last line does not fit the mood of the rest of the poem, but its disjunction seems to match the underlying disorder that is the real subject of the piece. I'm open to suggestions for changes.

Actually I like the title and related text. Perhaps tentacles is a might cliched; and so maybe a word change there later on? :o)

'craving creeps its tentacles around my mindless mind.......because the cat’s away.', well I like it the way it is.And to tell you the truth I can so easily identify with this. I would only replace cat's by 'MOWGLI is'( my two and half year old Dalmatian son). This piece definitely reflects your essence.

There is a certain predator/prey feel to this piece that lends a primal and natural urgency. It seems as though it could be longer and you may wish to consider adding... thanks for sharing.
