beautifuloldman

by Melanie J Yarbrough

he drank in sips-
slowly so as not to finish it all at once
just in case,
he suddenly needed to save it.

crazy old man.

he swam in circles-
little whirlpools so as not to disturb the other swimmers,
in an empty pool.

crazy old man.

he took baths in cold water-
sharp to the touch so as not to encourage
his already weary body,
at eighty-eight.

crazy old man.

he passed on a grey day-
stormy, in july so as not to ruin a perfectly
sunny day for us,
at ninety-one and a half.

lovely,
crazy,
beautiful,
old man.

A beautiful dedication to someone you loved. Emotionally delicate and bittersweet. Enjoyable read. I had to read it before I read 'beautifuloldwoman.' Good work, Melanie.

How charmingly beautiful and sweet. I'm sure he'd love if he could have read this. Nicely done!
