the Remnant by Melissa Arel
They climb the walls like men of war
And She weeps, yes the land mourns
As oil bleeds from her soul, She lets out a cry
*Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?
12/01/2000 Author's Note: *My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Not too sure what this poem means to be honest. I wrote it back in '00 and I guess it can be identified with the most recent war, given from the land's point of view.

Posted by Tim D Livingston on 09/02/03 at 01:44 PM I like this perspective. There's a verse that says all creation waits and groans... |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 09/02/03 at 08:21 PM Evocative little piece Melissa. Quite the powerful image: oil bleeds from her soul. |
Posted by Ken Harnisch on 09/04/03 at 07:21 AM wow...four lines that pack some punch...especially when the meaning is added as you have Mel...I'm with Chris: the line about the oil is powerful! |
