Awaiting the Fall

by Max Bouillet

Just an apple on an overwhelmed branch,
drooping toward the water.
With every breath of wind,
I kiss the creek and become
dappled and drunk with autumn
and dying.

My grave swishes beneath.
It is withdrawn, yet seductive
and eager to swallow.
I seize my reflection
and become aware
of the leaves embellishing me.
A droplet trickles and
falls into the depths
and into my fate.

My reflection falters.
The droplet forms ripples,
and the ripples form rainbows
of autumnal leaves
bursting into death blossoms.

I am over the rainbow, and
just like Oz
I will be content
to enjoy my grand facade.

Max - I saw the title and I really wasn't sure what to expect...all types of visuals!...I've sure known that feeling of the apple - the last line really summed it up - nice work...

"dappled and drunk with autumn and dying" - wow, wonderful lyricism and imagery, not just in this line, but the whole thing. Beautiful piece here, Max. :)

Intriguing symbolism. Colorful imagery. There is the death of summer in the autumn leaves. Death must come to renew winter's white breeze.

A wonderfully done bit of symbolic poetry. Just like an apple; attractive on the surface with lots to enjoy on the inside.

Quite a unique and refreshing perspective this is written from. Filled with spectacular images brought about by excellent word choices. I was immediately captivated and enthralled, waiting for the plop of this one upon me... no disappointment there.

An enjoyably crisp and tangy read to steer us towards the upcoming season!
