From Cloud Nine... to you

by David R Spellman

I whisper past your weary smiles
drawn from the deepest breadth of you;
a silent, invisible process of assimilation
unfolding upon transfigured parchment.

A solitary puff of open sail
blown by winds that find no seams
yet propelled to such an accumulated extent
in indiscriminate passage through every stratum
fashioned serious enough to cover the void
and to gently rest as if a holy nimbus,
a halo gracing your mountain shrines.

At last when I have had my fill,
grown laden with precipitous desire,
I'll shed myself in crystalline flakes,
liquidate my treasure in fallen facets
to settle among the dust upon your heels.

Perhaps amid the grasses green
or in fields now grown ripe with grain,
that even in my most tarnished forms
you'll hail all of my reign's domain
and miss not the silver lined therein.

This piece seems to carry like a soft and subtle love song on a spring breeze. Yet the message is firm and hits the mark. Great poetics, Dave. Peace...

Wow! This poem one to be pondered! Wonderful imagery as cast upon the waters in full sail, to move in nautical miles catching in a seine a life full lived and devoted, a rich domain.

Very few poems leave me in tears... this is one of them. How absolutely beautiful in its expression and sentiment! (After my first reading of it I thought of the line from Steven Still's Southern Cross... "I'm heading for tomorrow, my dreams are a'dying...but my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.") Sigh...

Reading this poem has quite a soothing, calming effect, like being able to walk on that very cloud you talk about.

PS: Excellent construction/use of vocabulary also!

As you requested comments in the general forum I have come to read you. What can I say about this. I simply can not grasp this piece. The first strophe is confusing to me with the irony of "deepest breadth" only adding to the confusion in my mind. It also contains some rather syllable heavy unnecessary words that seeming only cloud the water (or should I say fog the breeze). peace -bf

I guess the image I liked the best is this one: "and to gently rest as if a holy nimbus, a halo gracing your mountain shrines." Your poem is both etherial and mind-bending. I read at different levels from verse to verse. Very creative and well done. Outstanding choice of words.

It's getting so I repeat myself commenting... There was such a deep sense of awe even reading this, of peace and contentment, yet ever searching. It is a truly beautiful poem.

Easy to sail along to and admire the lovely images. So many good comments have been left, so I'll just add this simple praise.

This one goes beyond, Dave. To call it a love poem would be an understatement. Congratulations of becoming the Poet of The Day. Pe4ce...
