And This, I Promise

by Lori Johnson

And this, I promise...

When diamonds lose their luster
and memories start to fade,
when time has passed too slowly
and someone's there to take my place...

Promise on occassion
when you hear familiar song,
you'll think of me, if only fleeting
for if I know this, I can go on.

Because when this life is over,
with the storybook complete...
I will have kept my solemn vow,
to be everything they need.

You see, in the days that follow,
when all my work is through
I will have sacrificed my Self, indeed
but my Heart belongs to you.

...yesterday, today, and forever.

Author's Note: A little cheesy, Hallmark-ish poem, but it came to me, I posted it, 'nuff said. LOL

Poignant expression I'm sure each of us can fit into our own life experience Lori.

All this needs is a couple of cupids in a crossfire. I love a good love poem and this one is just mushy enough, Lori. Peace...
