shadow of love by Michele Schottelkorbamongst the deepest shadows
time swims in and out of mind
forever mending this troubled abyss
of which two souls were left to crumble
she dances alone along her bar rail of shame
he recesses into his mirrored reflection of hate
the stars still glisten against the moonlight
as the world passes slowly by
but, time did stop for just a moment
and words unspoken poured out of bruises
cuts still bleeding from open wounds
set forth to healing one second at a time
and, slowly, this tattered princess
stepped up to this weary knight's chest
laying her heart in his
whilst taking his in turn
a friendship of love began to unfold
crimson roses wept blood tears
passion followed trust followed solace
as a bond of steel clasped shut
the world still passes slowly by
and the stars still glisten with the moon
the crimson rose still sheds blood tears
but the souls apart before
grow into the scheme of madness
claiming love and life for their own

07/03/2003 Author's Note: this was the first poem i ever wrote for my husband... we both came in with a lot of baggage... from addiction to abusive ex's... we still have rough days, but, somehow, we still manage to make it to the next...
