Imaginary Devils

by Max Bouillet

She tastes of God and melted chocolate,
sweet and pungent;
baptized in musk and sacraments.

She lay spent and shivering
on the floor of her double-wide
where her husband of the moment
slips off her and into anonymityÂ…

Â…tiny newborn angels
crawl from the condom
stumbling over shag carpet.
Soon their wings unfurl
and they take flight
to sit on the shoulders
of a thousand jaded poets
only to be ignored
in favor of
imaginary devils.

very very imaginative.. . you've got our mind's eyes following their strange flight

Now there is a graphic depiction with a twist. I like the raw emotion captured here and the way you ignite all senses to their fullest extent. Elusive yet provocative, Max. I detect shades of Bukowski and a great title too. Peace...

nice one Max...very imaginative...with connotations of darkness intricately interwoven within the imagery - well done sir!

the images evoked by this poem are both stimulating and repulsive... excellent use of creativity and imagination speaking on a subject that isn't "perfect" or even "beautiful"... your style is intriguing... off to read more... blessings...

thoughtful. i'll have to consider this one more. can't say i really *enjoy* it, per se, but i really think it's well-written and imaginative and provocative and all those wonderful things. thanks.

Images are striking and seed the imagination, methinks I shall never think of it in the same way again. Good work.

The poem... has alot of power Max, I agree. This part really stood out in bold letters to me "her husband of the moment slips off her and into anonymity… …tiny newborn angels crawl from the condom stumbling over shag carpet." Awesome work!

Both vivid and evocative. And shocking! Certainly catches one's attention. An oxymoron kind of poem, as Golau stated it, "drunken lucidity".

wow, this is amazing. i always wonder about the unborn, too-- think about the potential if they had been given the chance to be born. i like the way you mentioned that in here. i love this, the imagery is fantastic.

Whew, so many comments. I'll just sneak in here and say that it's a good read, provided a lot of fuel for thought.

With this you were able to capture the loneliness and sometimes ordinary act of sex, leaving nothing of the sanctity of love. While this speaks so much of modern society, it also taunts those of us who try to write, choosing those "imaginary devils" over other "more pleasant" subject matter. Often, it is up to us to expose those things, not so prety, and with this you've done a great job.

This poem has an interesting twist in that the blame rests on both sexes rather than the mistep of just one...it harkens to the idea that both man and woman contain the potentiality for human life and that both make conscious choices....although I think I just read this article in the science times that claimed a slight various of otherwise...it is a fasinating debate throughout.
