Unflappable by Bruce W NiedtThis guy I used to work with,
calm as a mirror lake,
never let anything bother him,
never raised his voice,
rarely even spoke, in fact.
Unflappable, he wore this
Mona Lisa smile, bemused
by everything around him:
mountains of paperwork,
abusive bosses, cantankerous clients,
a wife just short of schizophrenic.
None of it scratched the veneer.
Then one day, in need of a pen,
I looked for one to borrow from his desk
when he had stepped away.
Finding nothing on the surface,
I opened his top drawer, and found
about a dozen pencils,
each one snapped in two.

| Posted by JD Clay on 06/11/03 at 12:43 PM Pensive poetry, Bruce. This one has everything, including a luring title, poignant message and subtle impact to wrap it all up in a humorous bow. Great stuff, bro.
Peace... |

| Posted by Mara Meade on 06/12/03 at 07:39 PM I wondered where this would lead when I began reading it... I don't know whether to laugh or cry for this guy! What a picture here, Bruce. Love it! |
| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/15/03 at 01:59 PM WOW! Maybe you also better check his locker for semi-automatic weapons. Another good story poem Bruce! |
| Posted by Ulyss Rubey on 06/20/03 at 03:50 AM A bit more flappable that he appeared eh?
There are lots more of us out there, and we have stockpiles of pencils. Deep Impact!
