TAMED (A Sonnet )

by Ken Harnisch

Sweet savage heart, now corralled in the dust

And sagebrush round-up, tamed and very quiet.

Led around by a golden rope, I trust

Myself to no emotion, lest it riot.

So gentle now I am prone to saddling

By any cowboy, and rides to children

While they play mad calliopes, paddling

My flanks to get me to round the round again

Did they say I was of that wild kind

That used to buck all would-be riders off

Into the dirt, and bloody them? No mind

If they did not, I am nary that rough

Anymore. Love beat all hell out of me

Now, even the tenderfoots ride for free

Excellent analogy Ken, neatly combined with a timeless style of poetry. Well done 21st century Shakespeare!

Wow, so wistful... I do believe you are the first poet I have read to have successfully gone into the head of a horse. Extremely touching.

I'm glad you are writing new ones again :) Seems you have a new line of groupies too!

i read a sad poem... an acceptance of the fact of having to give into something one really didn't want to give into..like a broken spirit...no energy to fight is left
