Fancy, I'm Not

by Jean Mollett

Being fancy is fine, if
your used to it. Which I am
not, sure I like nice things.
The same as anyone else, but
not so fancy. Fancy lace,
curtains, food, clothes or home,
that's just not me. Except now I
have to watch what I eat, and how
it's cooked.

I'm used to to down to
earth things, something real, not
so fancy. I prefer simple things,
where you're not afraid to live,
or walk thru. Sure I like nice
things, if it gets broke, it could
be easily replaced. Without the worry,
oh it's rare, no replacement. I
wouldn't feel comfortable,
everything so fancied up around me.
Fancy, I'm not.

Being fancy is fine, if your used
to it. Depends on what got broken,
expense wise it may have to wait
awhile. If it's fixable, fix it,
if not just throw it away. I usually
check around, see who has the same
item, for the best price. Watching
people in big fancy Lincolns, Cad's,
sports cars.

Just give me a regular
normal car, Chevy, Mercury, or some
kinds of Fords. Mostly Chevys, is
my favorite, not a big boat of a car
or a bug. Med size, at least you do
have room to move around in, can relax
better. I like a little elbow room,
you don't feel cramped up. Of course
to consider milage, gas, oil, too.
I like nice things too. But.
Fancy, I'm not.

A man after my own heart. Well expressed Jean!

LOL! Sounds very much like the Jean I've learned to know! I like my big Buick Park Avenue. It is easy to get into and out of and rides like a dream! But mainly, like you, I go in for the simpler things. Though simple does not necessarily mean cheap! I like the formatting of the poem (centered).

Some people call it Fru Fru...although that might not be how it is spelled...too fancy of a spelling for me I guess! I'm with you...I like down to earth and simple too.

It is good to read a poem with the "simplicity" theme. It is something I yearn for but do not strive for enough. On that recent campout by the Lake... I used our old 91 Suburban. Biggest fancy thing is electric locks. It was so nice to be able to get out of the vehicle and just push down the little lock and not worry about alarms going off... like my Camry. Anyway, I liked your poem and its clear simple message. Thanks.
