rust

by Melissa Arel

i feel
disconnected

broken
from the chain
of familiarity

the missing piece
that links us
as one

these tears
turn me to rust

and i'm alone
again

an older poem..and yet I sense this feeling is more up-to-date, as recent conversations would seem to attest. Well-described state of mind, even if temporary

Great use of the broken chain and rust to exemplify the aloneness we all face from time to time.

The contrast of chain and disconnection are really effective, the tears, the rust... powerful images. Good poem.
