goldfish/butterfly

by Andrew S Adams

never feed the fish.
the goldfish are meant to die,
to show us something.
the life that they ultimately pass through
will remind us of our negligence,
our lack of love for the creatures 'below'.

dont feed the fish,
they'll die anyway.
and for what better good?

'hey, i lived in a bowl
my entire life.
i could see the world in
only a distorted fashion.
i was beautiful;
but contained-
so i could be replaced
by the next shining light of hope.'
never feed.
----
this entry
means nothing;
as a butterfly,
flying through a meadow.
Something believed to be mystical-
because it is stated so;
but in reality,
it is just a butterfly,
flying through a meadow.
nothing more.

yeah, it works, the juxtaposition- it's wryly playful
