My New 1983 Buick LaSabre and Me by Alex SmythOh, well. You can't expect to overcome 20 years
of low maintenance in one afternoon
at a 75-cent carwash. 05/17/2003 Author's Note:
But you can sure enjoy trying: cars and trucks coming and going all shiney and wet, people bustling about the hum of the vacuum cleaners, coins clinking, sun shining... all of this for a little pocket change.
*Yes, where I live carwashes really ARE 75 cents. With all our gravel roads, we couldn't afford them if they were more.

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 05/17/03 at 07:45 PM LOL!!! "low maintenance" says it all! Clever and funny! But where would you find a seventy five cent carwash? Even in 1983! ;) |
Posted by Allan Haslinds on 05/18/03 at 04:57 AM That's funny, Quentin. That exact sentence popped into my head as well! Short but sweet, Alex. I do however suggest folding some of those images from your author's note into the poem proper. They are evocative. |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 05/19/03 at 03:30 AM A zenish experience in just about 75 cents? This experience is worth much much more but well, not in terms of money. |
Posted by Mara Meade on 05/19/03 at 05:51 AM BUSTING out laughini! Gads, girl... I can see you shrugging your shoulders and just accepting life as it comes. This is great! |
