The Sky Caught On Fire

by Melissa Arel

The sky caught on fire and spread its flames
Like wings across the horizon, dousing us in
Its consuming fervor, we burned like embers

The night’s cloak could not hide our calenture
Nor could the ocean’s waves quench the heat
For we were transformed on the inside out;
Nothing could calm this raging sweep.

The handprint of God singed the small of my back
And tattooed my soul (the hour of my healing
has come), You tamed the beast as I released
One still small voice among a choir of saints

The smoke filled our lungs and ate the sin within
And we cried with a vengeance for Your Spirit
We cry for Your passion and power, set us on fire!

I marvel and turn over on my lips and in my mind the word 'calenture'...and the rest of this poem just consumes me in its vivid, spirited effluoresence!

Amen! Powerful imagery of a God who wants to "burn the dross" and "fill us with His passion" for him and all mankind. Beautifully illustrated as well.

Great piece of writing Melissa! Sounds almost apocalyptic. Well matched photo also.

Yes, that's intense. Bring your guitar and we'll put music to it!
