Tree

by Glenn Currier

Through the admiralty window
I admired the massive armada.
Anchored all winter
in irregular lines,
the waves of wind
barely bobbed fingery masts.

But now the fo'c'sle
teems with spring,
charged, primed, and keen
for the voyages of summer.

Deep growth of dormancy
concedes to the pulse and pound
of April winds.

Greening sails unfurl
and the armada waves goodbye
to the winter it lingered
beyond my window.

Excellent metaphor and imagery here Glenn. I felt as if I had witnessed the armada changing form right in front of my eyes. And right on time for the season. Very well done!

you make me want to come over to your house and drink tea and talk about canadian literature or something. my god. What am I going to do with this beauty? All I think about is dying, and your poems live and love and live...
