you know you've read too much poetry when... by Kalikala SmithEverything comes in prose.
It nuzzles your nose.
It tickles your toes.
You can't through the day
without having to say
"I'm a poet,
and I didn't even know it!"
But of course you knew.
It didn't come out of the blue.
You've read too much poetry,
now your life is filled with flow-etry.
You start using words that don't make sense,
that aren't found in the dictionary,
that rhyme with hence.
You become obsessed,
with meter when you talk.
And people ask you,
"Please, can you stop?"
And of course in your,
pathetic.org, ahem, poetic little way,
you tell these people
that you haven't gone astray.
Your mind is still in tact.
Then they point out a fact...
You haven't stopped rhyming since you started this poem.
You'd like to beat them but you don't even know 'em.
I've got to stop writing.
My rhymes are fighting.
