Mote

by Sarah Brookes

Flickering

Dances across
my dappled
path,
fracturing rays of
dusked ambience,
pierced with
fluted mirth.

Child-like. You chase,
twining past
through russet leaves.
Limbedpillars
tumble through,
fall laughing
from my sight.

Glitterfay
spinning on
turns to dust and
powdered light

Stretching out
inkedfingers
daub feather
trails over
weary boughs.
Disperse
then, among
stellar beams

Fragment over
salt scratched skies

Author's Note: Again from the archives. You may have guessed by this that I have a lot of dust in my bedroom, in the summer it always seems to flow down from the wood I can see from my window. Its a good job I'm not allergic.

At first, the line breaks caught me up just a little bit, but reading it the second time, I read it properly, realized the magic behind the spell, and appreciated then this poem's full beauty. "Glitterfey" captures the feel of this beautifully. Hints of both loss and wonder in this, like the split-rays of light that illuminate it. Now each mote, wisp of smoke, and speck-of-pollen-falling i will imagine to be slight winged ones- innocent knowledge-bearers. If you haven't seen the movie "photographing fairies," do so now, love. And it sounds like your room has a beautiful view! Thanks you, as always, for sharing. {m}
