Setting the Trap

by David R Spellman

Easily I’m amused
and watched it spin
thread upon delicate
silken thread it laid
bare before my eyes
a fine web evolving
its spokes highlighted,
glistening unhidden
in the golden backlight
of the late day sun.
Amazed I followed
its intricate design
and marveled at
the patient resolve
of this simple creature
who waits now still
unaware of passing time
with eviscerating hopes
of devouring captured prey.
My own evening dinner
went totally unprepared,
ignored the grumbled hollow;
my attention now caught
in tangled surrender
as I hungered more
for this one moment
of unfolding wonder.

You've caught a moment of wonder that is worth a meal I think. There should be a really good haiku in there somewhere. Peace, Que

Yes, wonder of mechanism, genetically programmed by the nature. You captured it beautifully.

They say insects and very nutritious but the tetse's are best sauteed in a light olive oil. Bon appetit. Wonderful perspective Dave. Peace...

There are indeed fewer things in nature more captivating than watching a spider spin its web. A well-conveyed observation - excellent poem! d:-)

The simple beauty and intricate design of both the poem and the web are natures gifts. Beautiful David!
