Now and Zen (tanka)

by David R Spellman

though blossoms may fade
beauty lies still in the eyes
beholding essence
held as fleeting moments that
may escape to spring again

Wonderfully written! Philosophical. Reminds me of the proverb, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." However, you have expanded beautifully on the thought.

Simply beautiful David like the blossoms and eyes in the poem.

I love the genius of making the eyes a vessel from which memories can be released. Excellent work, David.

I read this a few times and was surprised how many layers there are to this... "beauty lies still..."; "escape to spring..." How do I read them? How do I choose to understand them? Very provocative.
