the inevitable joy of taking a walk

by Quinn Vokes

Walking in the woods I hear
birds sweetly singing
the wind softly blowing
water magically flowing

Walking in the woods I smell
the fresh, clean air
filled with scents and
colors

Walking in the woods helps
me to be calm
be happy
and listen to God

He is speaking quietly in
the trees
the water
and through me

Author's Note: ~I wrote this about a year ago, expressing my obvious feelings then. I look back on it now and feel nothing, b/c walking in the woods no longer has the same effect on me. I wish it did, but I guess I've changed(and it doesn't seem to be for the better).

This beautiful poem is a revelation. There is a wonderful lesson in your very words. Change is inevitable and the answers are not always clear. That however does not mean we should stop listening or walking. What is clear is why this piece was chosen for Poem Of The Day. Congratulations Quin, I hear you all the way. Peace... Peace...

Thanks for this fresh stroll. Your poem is a delight... just recently had a good walk in a nature preserve near my home... nice to breathe the fresh air and take in Mother Earth.

Serene and soothing. Balm to the soul. Your lovely picture of a great place to communion with the Lord. Reminds me of Jesus "going off to a solitary place to pray". Lovely poem.
