I Simply Had To Dance by Anne EngelenI woke up to a gray cold rainy autumn day
The storm was chasing trembling leaves
How easy it was to feel that way
Dwelling on my grieves
Their rocky journey I followed
Their flight resembling a furious dance
Wild movements individually performed
Brought me in a trance
I felt the rhythm of life
I felt their last strife
I felt the music of the leaves
Forgot all about my grieves
The music took me over
Not leaving me a chance
I had no choice at all
I simply had to dance 10/14/2002 Posted on 10/14/2002 Copyright © 2024 Anne Engelen

Posted by Adrian Calhoun on 10/14/02 at 05:24 PM An uplifting poem. On a cool fall day such as it is today, this fits the mood and the season. I really enjoyed this poem, good job! |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 10/15/02 at 12:17 AM Ann, how evocative and alive your poem is... the movements, the trembling, the rhythm. The trance followed by the dance... rhyme in sound and in the I of the poem. Very good, Anne. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 10/15/02 at 06:13 PM This repeated word has a wonderful ring to it: 'grieves.' Autumn is my favorite time of year, and your poem nicely reminds of that carefree childhood compulsion to dance among the leaves which rhymes with grieves! :o)

Wonderful poem Anne. Why do they call them leaves they never leave, they are all over my yard?.....Charlie
