How Stany Became Sarah (haikus)

by Anne Engelen

Born into this world
Looking like a normal man
She was imprisoned

Trapped in his body
Solitary confinement
Been sentenced for life

Breaking out of there
Was all she ever thought of
She changed destiny

Not only his name
But also bodily features
Changed by surgery

He is now Sarah
Somewhat of a curiosity
But her soul's at peace!

Anne, you express so well the starkness of the angst of being one thing and being labeled as another. Well done.

A chair is still a chair, even when there is no one sitting there( Burt Bacharach ) Here is to being who you are.
