Throughout the Graven Hours of Night

by Melissa Arel

Hearing his tender voice evokes a craving within my heart
Knowing those syllables that skip across his lips are sincere
Gives me comfort throughout the graven hours of night
That seem to be deeply etched in the evening's palm

Sweet fragments of romance and longing are doused with love
As whispered words meet my ears in mutual admiration

Wanting so much to be next to you, I fear tomorrow will never come
Not soon enough for two newborn lovers
But the stardust will hold me until the dawn cradles my head in its bosom
And we can be with one another at morning's first blink
Professing the overflow of our soul's affection and the forsaken grievance
Now replaced by an angel's kiss

A gorgeous poem...one I think you could have read at your wedding and left nary a dry-eye in the house, Mel

Love the title, especially the word Graven. Text aptly reflects that title also. Well done!
