Oil of Possibility

by Glenn Currier

From every direction
they summon their desire
from the cobwebs of sleep
from the kernel of energy remaining
after another long night shift.

They sweep away
the entanglements, the love,
the pain of past failure,
voices of unbelievers,
memories of boredom,
doubts in the present
fears of the future,
every good and bad reason
holding them down.

Like the frontiers men and women
they gather their families
their collected past
the luggage of their psyches
and hoist them upon their backs
find their way to the tracks
and roads formed by believers
and begin their morning trek
taking and making a train
fueled by oil of possibility.

From all directions
they make a caravan of dreams
sing their singular songs --
cadences creating and recreating
their minds, their hearts, their Selves --
always alone, never alone,
they arrive at their Center
where they begin their journey.

Like their Manifest Destiny, to achieve education. Nobel, affectionate, and inspiring!

Having been on both sides of the desk (and I still am) I can relate so well. In so many ways, we never leave the desk where we are learning. Life itself is a never ending teacher, and we its students.
