[CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS]

by Julie Adams

hues of blue
and black
line my insides
like layers of
chipped paint
but they
decorate my soul
as best they can

perhaps, soon
I will let people come over, see
what I've done with my temple
when its redecorated
no need for
dark hallways
and empty rooms

I want patchwork blankets
to warm my isolation
I want a velvet chair to
rub my imagination
I want memories
hanging on the wall
in celebration of all
the holes I've crawled from

I want collages of faces
where mirrors should be
I want candlesticks that
melt confusion belly-dancing
in my den
I want pillows
that suck up tears and lick
knowledge into my ear
I want walls the color of wine
ferment my bruises
into lessons

perhaps, soon
I'll let people come over
see what I've done with the place
but for now I am

this leaves me breathless...i especially like the comparisons you used in this...and i feel every house could use a collage of faces where a mirror would be...

a 5 year old poem? my goodness, how wonderful it must be to see your older work dusted off and on the front page...after reading, i'm so stunned. impressed. i love the infusion of paint here, that's a favorite theme of mine...i love the line, the rhythm, the sound, the sadness...and i love this: I want candlesticks that melt confusion belly-dancing in my den I want pillows that suck up tears and lick knowledge into my ear I want walls the color of wine ferment my bruises into lessons.....blown away. congrats on POTD. well deserved. Excellent poem Julie, and well worth the title of POTD. I like it all, but these lines greabbed me especially, and can sooo relate to them: I want memories hanging on the wall in celebration of all the holes I've crawled from

Julie, congratulations on POTD! The metaphor used for changes is wonderful. Sometimes shutting down emotionally is what's needed for healing. It's a very sensual poem, since you've created something felt with almost all of them.

I really enjoyed the whole idea of a personal renovation and your images are quite splendid. Just a strong, vivid presentation.

This is a very impressive piece. It flows quite and I love some of the images you put forth.

this is a powerful poem. I loved " want patchwork blankets to warm my isolation I want a velvet chair to rub my imagination I want memories hanging on the wall in celebration of all the holes I've crawled from" it had such great flow and topic. As did the rest of the poem. that part is just my favorite. beautiful.
