INRI

by David R Spellman

"I'm thirsty"

The saying only makes wind-
Chapped lips crack swollen
Grit-laden tongue scratching
Along already parched walls

The sky around me grows
Dark pleas with muttered hope
Phantom figures surround me
Pass into undistinguished forms

Fastened ropes no longer burn
Cold as nails in my hands
And feet no longer feel
Ground no longer at my soul

Soured wine still bittersweet
Offered now to satisfy my desire
For forgiveness requested from
My God
"My God, why
Have you forsaken me?"

Excellent poetic 'blast from the past,' David, both religious and your own upon noting when you wrote this. Especially like how you express from Jesus' perspective. Hat's off to ya once again.

You have captured in a graphic and touching way the humanity of the Man and the pain he chose over power. .... powerful poem, my friend.

"Fastened ropes no longer burn Cold as nails in my hands And feet no longer feel Ground no longer at my soul" This is an amazing write, what a view it brings....
