Update on Scheherazade
Scheherazade will be ready for her 2nd Service/Guide Dog Exam this coming weekend. She and I have been focused deep in signal-learning from this past January through today. She's able to discern different snaps of my fingers, what they mean and how to respond; she's got it down that my open hand moving down is a request for her to lay down, a closed hand to sit, a raising hand to rise, a hand forming a "T" to wait, two hands folded across means stop and pay attention only to me. She'll be 10 months old on the 21st, and is beyond the progress of what I expected of her by this time. I think she'll be completely ready to visit her first children's hospital and veteran's hospital by early summer!

Posted by Glenn Currier on 03/19/10 at 05:18 PM Beautiful dog, her learning is amazing. I sensed your patience and respect for her. It is a joy to read of such a relationship between animal and human. Blessings to you both. |

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 04/22/10 at 01:19 PM what a lovely thing you are doing, Jilly. we should all follow such humanly suit. and yet I cannot help think, what perceived to be beast which began its career wild and fierce would not succumb and turn placid to a snap of your finger? I don't believe such a creature exists. and if perchance there was one hiding somewhere, I am certain that with a few more gingerly snaps, and signaling of the hands, he'd get the message and come out of hiding and before you know it, and in no time would begin to jump through hoops, do flips and even heel to your magical fluting. Keep up the fantastic work, Jilly. |

Posted by George Hoerner on 12/07/17 at 01:52 AM I've had many dogs over the years and the amount of love the can't be measured. All they ask is affection in return, some food and water, and a place to sleep. Our have always slept in bed with unless 'they' didn't want to which was very rare. I wish you all the best! |
