The Journal of Michele Schottelkorb

from one of our own... not a news reporter...
02/09/2005 01:48 p.m.
this is an PM i received from our service man, Dana E Brossard (currently serving in Iraq) after leaving a comment on his newest poem: They Smile (http://www.pathetic.org/poem.php?page=library.php&i_memberid=1136&i_poemid=1107794979&i_folderid=560&mode=)

i asked if i could post his response in a journal entry, and he told me i could... i'm sorry, but for all the wonderful well meaning people who have no clue what they are talking about, why don't you ask someone who is actually there... (excuse me if i sound irritated, but i watched this horribly constructed michael moore fundraiser show a couple of weeks ago, taped in November, that had two ex-service men, both dressed slovenly and un-kempt, (kind of like michael moore) yelling their dislike of the war... i was seriously wondering if they were truly soldiers or not, they had absolutely no tact...) this post isn't about our president, it is about our people... and i'm sick of our people getting trashed... and any other country that is there with us... and unless you served in a war and are over 50 (like many of our fine poets here... you know what you are talking about... i won't even touch your opinions, you waaaaay outrank me *grin*), then i think it's time to start listening to all the facts, not just the ones you want to hear... not everything is black and white... even though it feels good to be with the elite, the "in -crowd", trashing our president (one man, one man)... remember, those defending our opinionated little selves can hear us...

Thank you for taking the time to read and post Michele. Being over here in the middle of everything, I do so hate to see what they show on tv, because truth be told, I do not see or know of most of what they show and speak of. It's still scary over here, and we are constantly attacked, but by far and large, most of the people out here are happy to see us and have us around. Especially the children.

I am currently Thoughtfull
I am listening to nothing...

may I say, you got a lot of guts gal. when I was in the Army, just this nineteen year old kid, doing boot in Ft. Dix, N.J. the saying around the camp was, as was the infantryman's motto, to say to his fellow infantryman, these words, " Follow Me " Well dear one, those aren't simply words, you have to have a lot of faith in the people you are following and I have faith in you and your words. would follow you to Venus and back.

Even though I'm Canadian, I worry about the US troops in Iraq, and how things remain unstable because of a few extremist lunatics there. I was glad to see so many Iraqies happy to risk voting last week. A prayer for improvement.

I think there is a misconception about people who do not support the war. I do not support it because I don't support violence in general. This does not mean that I don't support the people who are fighting, quite the opposite. I support the troops because they are the people who are there, willingly or not, and are doing their required duty for this country. What I don't support is that they are killed or that they are forced to kill others. The troops are the real people from real families and I can support them, even if I don't support why they are there.
