me and my lamp
10/15/2005 07:55 p.m.
I have this lamp. She sits on my bedside table. She is a very ordinary lamp. At first glance at least. Her base is an angel wearing a pink gown. She is holding a bouquet of lillies with a small lamb lying at her feet. Ok, maybe not that ordinary ~ but we all have to start somewhere. The way I see it our base ~ our beginning ~ is meant to be somewhat ordinary, but special to each of us. After all, there is only one way to enter the world ~ but we each do it with our own flare.
Ok, back to my lamp. Her shade is quite boring. Just a plain beige shade. Nothing else. And plain is never noticed, it just simply is. I love my lamp. She reminds me of myself. Just your every-day ordinary lamp, but when you take the time to get to knew her ~ let her do what she does best, her beauty shines.
Every night, I turn out my bedroom lights, and gently walk over and switch her on. From beneath that plain, beige shade ~ she radiates a beauty that cannot be seen unless you let her shine. Every panel of the shade turns into a colorful picture. There is green grass, blue skies, animals, trees, even angels. Her beauty comes from within. And only when given the chance to let her inner light shine. Only when someone takes the time to sit and get to know her. Admire her not for the ordinary that they see, but for who she really is ~ just a lamp, doing her job ~ spreading light and beauty for others. She comforts me. There are many nights that I go to sleep with her light.
I can relate to my lamp. Maybe that is why I love her so much. My whole life I have been passed over because of my plain exterior, all the while ~ my beauty can be found within ~ if only people would take the time to get to know me.
But this is the world that we live in. Beauty is not skin deep. It is soul deep. That is true beauty. It shines. It radiates. It just is.

little bits of colored memories
09/30/2005 03:20 a.m.
My favorite candy as a child was Sixlets. Those little colored morsels of yum ~ really no bigger than pellet. My brother would get a Chunky and I would get the Sixlets. Everytime ~ the same. Momma would always let us eat our candy in the car on the way home, but I had to wait.
Not because I was a bad child or anything like that ~ I was an angel ~ (see previous entry) but.......
Because I just couldn't eat them from that awesome tubular package they were in ~ no ~ I had a system for eating my Sixlets. Now that I think about it, it just might have been early OCD coming out. I had to have them dumped into a bowl so I could methodically eat them by their color. No certain order of color, I would just grab one and then eat all of that color ~ save one piece. Those green, red, yellow, orange, and brown yummies. My mouth is watering as I type this. Then at the end ~ with my five tiny pieces of candy, each a different color in hand ~ I would gobble them up in one big swoof.
I bought me some Sixlets today ~ and found myself instantly reverting to my childhood Sixlet obsession. It was like ingrained or something. I had not thought about that for years. But there it was.
And it felt sooooo good. Tasted pretty good too.
Aaahhh, I miss my childhood.

I really love Taco Bell. Really. I do.

1)They are inexpensive.
2)They have Diet PEPSI!!!
3)The little dittys on those sauce packets just crack me up.
4)Three words ~ Carmel Apple Empanada

I miss that little doggie they used to have though. My mom actually collected them. Remember when they sold the stuffed ones and when you squeezed their tummies, they each had a little saying? My nephew called them chalupas (instead of chihuahuas) way back then, he still does to this day. Must have been when chalupas were new. Am I even spelling that right? Mom has them hanging on the back of her bedroom door in one of those shoe caddies. Every once in a while ~ she makes them talk. Taco Bell Chihuahua Chalupas in a Shoe Caddy. Just gotta go with the flow ~ you know
