Canaan by David R SpellmanDescendants of Shem, sons of Abraham Blood brothers both, to Isaac and Ishmael Fathers blindly sacrificing still to this day Lost, poor children, of Palestine and Israel
Peace undermined, broken, innocents horribly die Martyrdom denied, duped by brainwashed suicide You'd think by now you would have all realized Deceived by forces belonging to neither side
Unwary pieces played on someone else's board Induced reactions of many suckered pawns Manipulated like puppets hung on a string By another's strategy, it is they're drawn
Mystified, as if looking with unseeing eyes Acting, as if thinking with someone else's mind Stop, and question what you are led to believe Start to answer what you must hope to find
Peace, the thread needed to tie a lasting bond Terror, the fracture to be redressed and set right Neighbors, sharing lands divided by ancient pasts Sisters, brothers, same one family in God's sight

| Posted by Glenn Currier on 04/07/03 at 03:39 PM I am glad I decided to visit your archive today. The title caught my eye and as I read, it struck me how appropriate that poem would be for TODAY'S news (April 6, 2003) from the streets of Iraq. Very well done, my good poet friend. |
