Letters Home by Chris Sorrenti
I was looking for a new hobby
and as the saying goes
the good Lord works in mysterious
and not so mysterious ways
At the latest Sorrenti reunion
a cousin hands me a plain unmarked envelope
stuffed with…no…not $100 bills
but something much more valuable
My dad lived in a dizzying amount of places
training for war, Army then Air Force
my ADHD mind could never keep track
of them all
So many questions I should have asked both parents
thought of only after they were gone
back in those days 1940s - 50s - 60s
there was no Internet or email for information
If not by expensive long-distance
telephone or telegram
then forwarded by post and an aunt
wise enough not to throw them out
Now here’s that golden opportunity
to fill in the blanks
get to know my parents a little better
some questions finally answered

| Posted by Clara Mae Gregory on 09/18/26 at 05:12 PM Hello, Chris. No wonder we've become and remained good friends throughout all these years!
I did not realize you were a "military brat" like me. I can relate very well. Even more so, talk about uncanny, my daughter very very recently gave me a letter that I had written to my mother when I first started college in 1972, age 17. I do not remember writing it. The girl that wrote it is not who I am today but I do remember her. It has stirred my emotions-- you'll be reading more if you are tuning in. I have stuff waiting to be put to bed in my journal just waiting to receive it. Writing helps my brain. This poem connected...
To me. |
