Farewell to June Lockhart
that sublime TV mother
vaguely recalled
her face on Lassie
this fan still pretty young
back then
or was it only reruns?

Ah!
but Lost in Space
that was a show worth watching
already hooked on sci-fi
Cape Canaveral rocket launches
and there she was
among the well casted crew
after 100 years on this planet
having just made
the ultimate lift off

What she was like in real life
really doesn’t matter
at least to this fan
but of-course
you can look her up
except to say
she reminded me
in some ways
of my own mom
though
in an astronaut’s uniform

Another part of my childhood
ripped away
as with so many
who went before her
something you get used to
in one sense
or then again
maybe not
