On turkey detail tonight
and happily so
cause preparing a big meal
is like running the marathon
though even better
in some regards

Getting that chef’s high
sampling one’s own wares
every step of the way
in the name of quality control
of course
like an assembly line
of cooking and cleaning
with breaks in-between

At the end of It all
giving thanks
for another year
of full belly
topped off with
that wonderful
turkey sleep
