There’s something mischievous
in this early September in
late August air
or is it only the boredom talking
certainly isn’t the wine

Had to give it up a while ago
doesn’t mix well with
a cocktail of meds
three of which for
the old Type II

A blessing in disguise
actually
in hindsight
never should have drank
or drugged at all
though
it led to some good poetry

That was the ADHD mind
in overdrive
self-medicating
looking for a cure
though have to admit
there’s safety in boredom
out here in the great dry
of one’s own mind
peace and calm

As for mischievous
playing a prank on the man
I used to be perhaps
having survived
a little while longer
without and beyond him
in this August-September
of my own life
