on a stinking hot night in July, 1981
after a brother’s wedding
all of us into the sauce
you insisted on going for a swim
but had no trunks so
in your undershorts you went

the camera was there
from the earlier celebration
without thinking as a lark
you assumed the Captain Morgan pose
i took the picture
and as the saying goes
the rest is history

but history’s been erased
a few years ago in fact
in any number of cleanups
negative included

i would have told you all this
six years ago
when at your suggestion
we go out for lunch
but then you ghosted me

in any case
not to worry old friend
you won’t be appearing
at least anytime soon
on the cover of Playgirl
