Now that Rice and Crichton are gone
I’ve lost all interest in reading novels
although keeping a copy of
Whitley Strieber’s Dreamland
at the ready for doctors' appointments

Over five years
only read a few pages here and there
the periods in-between long enough
I can never remember what the story’s about
except involving alien abduction
Strieber himself an abductee
put under hypnosis at one point
to prove it

I know
don’t say it
I’m a technological dinosaur
who refuses to spring for a smart phone
still preferring to do his computing at home
the few times I go out
would rather be admiring the world around me
than staring at a damn computer screen!

In answer to your question
don’t read books, I write ‘em
though still read a lot of poetry
playing catch and keep up
so to speak

As I’ve gotten older
my ADHD has worsened in some regards
things I did automatically years ago
like reading a book
seem foreign to me now

Only recently did I have the courage to
look over the course of my life
realizing how mentally ill I was
and to a degree
still am
