Summer solstice passed
Sun at its highest point
start of a new week and
this year’s first serious heat wave

45 Celsius or more
predicted by Wednesday
while half way around the globe
storms of a different kind
taking too many lives

On this day of all days then
let us give thanks
it’s only humidity to be dealt with
in this part of the world

Though under the right conditions
it too can kill
