Aylmer Art Show by Chris Sorrenti
Welcome to Art!
that wonderful vehicle of imagination
leave your racing cars behind
there’s no need for that kind of speed here
for she’s beautiful and dangerous enough
in all her contortions
distorted or otherwise
sitting on a checkered flag
And there’s no way
you can knock her
she’s flying high above us all you see
with her head in the universe
or maybe perched upon a chess board
like a noisy Blue Jay
“It’s always your move,” he says
Oh look!
a piece of artwork in your hand
freshly purchased
Deserted Gatineau Beach Under An Angry Sky
from an up and coming but
as yet unknown artist
the energy of forebode
easily radiates from the canvas
surely she’ll go far
And dare you pick up your own brush?
for fear of what you might find
within yourself
or afraid of what others might think
don’t think too long though
for there they go
whizzing past the non-starting line
having just
bought another painting
that caught your eye
before you made up your mind
You know the one
...with the lady and the chessboard flag
