Well old friend
it’s time to say good-bye
based on the demise of other sites
knew this day would come

It’ll be strange at first
having been together for 25 years
the brainchild of Gavin Roy
programmer extraordinaire

You had your roots
at some university in the States
a group of students
who wrote poetry
in wry self deprecation
named themselves
The Pathetic Poets Society
then Gavin wrote the software
to migrate you to the Net

Over the years
so many faces come and gone
too many to that poetry reading
in the sky
while others simply abandoning you
for greener pastures
though quite a few keeping touch
on Facebook

Your best years are now behind you
the bugs are many but tolerable
after all your creator
has a real life to live
so irresistible your best features
keeping me from
moving the fleet
to another site

Unaware that Gavin was working
on another masterpiece
a new home for us
realists and dreamers
large and small
to be activated in the near future
called eMuse.org

Soon you’ll be shut down
and Pathetic.org
no more than a pleasant memory
a place where I
met so many others
like myself
and through it all
learned and grown
