A heavy snow falls outside
beautiful
and yet so ugly
this time of year
God!
will this winter never end?
while a different kind of
winter begins

Well matched
to the politics of the day
for a tariff war has begun
where the little people
on both sides of the border
will bear the brunt
but the billionaire dictator
in the White House
doesn’t care
as long as his ego
thirst for power
are satisfied
the expression
ugly American
given new meaning

Why is it?
every so many generations
we have to put up with a
new band of thugs
who call themselves politicians
until finally the collective will
comes together
to kick them and their warped agendas
into the history books

Today
Canada goes to war again
but a kind it’s
never fought before
with the outcome
predicted though
quite uncertain
while a heavy snow
continues to fall outside
as one wonders
when will it end?
