Shiny bobbles
help us forget
the monster in the
bedroom
in the basement
below the border
while comforted in the
bobble of knowing it’s
its own worst enemy
and salvation
will eventually come

Shiny bobbles are the
chocolate milk and cookies
buffering and balancing
the challenges
of adulting
making us kids again
if only
for a short while

Shiny bobbles
come in all shapes and sizes
some of the best
a dime a dozen
out of the meme factory
have a laugh
here and there
at no one’s expense
to escape this dystopian world
we exist in

Shiny bobbles
are comfort food for the mind
just like the ones
mom used to bake
back when a different kind of
boogey man (nuclear powered)
introduced us to the
monsters of adulthood

And yet even back then
shiny bobbles could be found
