My God!
September 1978
the orange of Fall
captured throughout
the landscape
a convent across the street
and beyond
the skyline of a city
that is no more
and deeply missed
Canada and the
greater world
a very different place now

Kodak Instamatic
a Christmas gift in 1975
those cameras
easily loaded
with the handy cartridges
before this photographer
progressed to 35mm

Thus, not sharp
yet neither, blurry
clear enough to make out
the Parliament Buildings
from the Quebec side
of the Ottawa River
from the Fontaine building
in Gatineau-Hull
where a civil servant - poet
once earned his daily bread
and finally
cutting across the picture
an Interprovincial bridge

September 1978
My God!
only 21 then
going out with a girl
who would become my wife
our whole lives
still ahead of us
and the son we would bring
into this world
changed so much
since that fateful day
the shutter
would seal the deal
capturing a bit of local history
for posterity
as we say
