Staccato

by Chris Sorrenti

In order to understand the concept
one must first grasp the full meaning of the word

Think of each poem
as a note or better
a chord
with periods of time in between
the variance of those periods sets the tempo
whether a snail’s pace or galloping Mustang
much the same as the writer’s heartbeat

Some notes and chords are quiet
while others loud
depends on the input
of inspirational energy
and to what degree
positive or negative
thus the poetry reveals and reflects
it’s musical roots
