Winter Out There

by Chris Sorrenti

And in here too
go ahead
open the window
just a crack
it comes rushing
into your lungs
makes you shiver
like an old friend
first happened upon
in your youth

Second childhood
isn’t that different
but now you
can sleep through
a lot of it
an old grizzly bear
hibernating till spring
while the fresh snow
reminds you
nothing stays the same

December’s equinox
only weeks away
and the days stretch
longer again
